A Look At Our National Leadership

Andy Ladyk

Meloni AdamsMy name is Andrei Ladyk (Andy), I’m 39, I’m Ukrainian. I was born in Chelyabinsk, Russia but I lived all my life in Ternopol in Western Ukraine. In 1987 I finished high school with advanced English program and in 1991 I graduated from college as a chef. In 1991-1993 I served in the Ukrainian army in Kronstadt and Lvov, and this played a large part in my coming to Christ.

In the army I heard several testimonies about Christ, and the difficult circumstances of my military duty often forced me to ponder on the meaning of life. In 1992 they allowed soldiers to read the Bible. It became available in the army because of Catholics and Seventh-day Adventists who gave us several copies. I heard the Good News itself a couple days after my discharge, in July of 1993.

It turned out that my new colleague at work was a new Christian, brother Victor. He also became a believer while serving in the army as he read the “Word of Life” — Living New Testament in Russian. Victor was the first to tell me that God loves me regardless of my works — both good and bad. He also told me that my sins can be completely forgiven because of the atoning sacrifice of Christ. Victor said that I can become a different man and go to paradise after I die.

I didn’t believe Victor but his words bothered me for several weeks. Because I was drinking all the time, was stealing and swearing I considered myself a sinner, but Victor told me that all this is just a consequence of me not believing in Jesus Christ. On July 15, 1993 I was born again and dedicated my life to Christ. This is the most important event in my life. Everything that I have today is the result of God's mercy toward me. I came to church in September of 1993; I was baptized in the Holy Spirit in October and was baptized in water in December of the same year.

In January of 1994 I enrolled in the International Bible College and two years later attained a Bachelor’s Degree in Practical Theology. During my study in college I was called by God to minister as a teacher and have been doing this for 17 years. I got married in 1997 and have a daughter who is eleven.

I have taught at Vision International University (MTEE’s Bible College Program) since 1998. This is my main job and I am glad that God gives me grace to do what I am called to do. During my 12 years of work at the University I have given about 500 lectures in Ukraine and Russia and met hundreds of brothers and sisters in different cities. The ministry at the University has become the most important part of my life, but I try to stay involved in our local church, too. In 2003 I received Master’s Degree in Theology from our University. Since 2008 I am the Academic Dean working with teachers which is my priority at the University. I am also a student in the Doctoral Program.

I have known Andy for many years and have taught him in both the Master’s and Doctoral Programs. He is an enthusiastic bicyclist and a great fan of Lance Armstrong. Andy will often bicycle great distances to his teaching assignments.
